Hi, I'm Ryan Kelly!

I help families find and win legitimate, lesser-known scholarships...without relying only on financial need, athletic aid, or the huge national awards everyone else is applying for.

c

I personally won $164,284 in scholarships and graduated college debt-free. Now, through Scholarship Navigator, I teach families the strategies I used to find better opportunities, build stronger applications, and make the scholarship process much more manageable.

If college is in your student’s future, I’m here to help you figure out where to look, what’s worth applying for, and how to give your student a stronger chance of winning.

My Story

So how did I go from $0 to $160,00 in scholarships, and helping families across the U.S. win millions of their own in awards?

During high school, I realized that if I didn’t figure out a way to pay for college, I’d have some hefty student loans to deal with and crippling debt straight out of college.

I was determined to find a better way to fund my college education.

Despite not knowing where to begin, I set to work, applying for a variety of scholarships while figuring out winning techniques and methods through trial and error.

My very first scholarship win earned me $100 and I was ecstatic.

Now…I’m sure there were plenty of people who could have told me, “Ryan…are you kidding? That’s not even going to buy you a college textbook.” And they would have been right.

But this small taste of success told me something different.

If I could win $100, why not $1,000? $10,000? $100,000?!

And so it began. I started figuring out the best possible ways to find scholarships with lower-competition (I did NOT want to be competing against hundreds or thousands of other students). And I also figured out how to tell my personal story in applications and essays in a way that compelled the judges to choose me (even though, to be honest, I wasn’t the best writer).

Even though I started from ground zero, I ultimately earned over $160,000 in scholarships, and didn’t spend a dime of my own money (or my parents!) on college bills.

My scholarships even covered a semester in Washington, D.C., books, fees, and other incidental costs.

Soon, family friends started asking me, “Hey, can you help us and teach us what you did?” And ever since then, I’ve found so much joy and fulfillment in encouraging, guiding, and mentoring other families and students in the scholarship process.

If I can cover college costs and graduate debt-free, you can too.

You’re in the right place if you’ve ever asked yourself any of the following questions:

  • Where do we find legitimate scholarships that aren’t impossible to win?
  • Does our income, GPA, or lack of athletic aid put us at a disadvantage?
  • How do we know which scholarships are actually worth our student’s time?
  • What makes one application stand out from hundreds of others?
  • Can scholarships really make a meaningful difference in what we pay for college?
    •

I had all of those same questions when I started.

Over the years, I developed the step-by-step scholarship strategy I ultimately used to win $164,284 in scholarships and graduate college debt-free—and turned it into a process other families can actually follow.

You don’t have to figure this out from scratch.

I teach families how to find legitimate, lesser-known opportunities, focus on scholarships that are a better fit, build stronger applications, and create essays that can be adapted and reused again and again.

In 2019, I founded Scholarship Navigator to make that process easier for other families, whether or not they qualify for need-based aid, have perfect grades, or receive athletic scholarships.

Since then, families using these strategies have gone on to win nearly $3 million in scholarships.

Who Does Ryan's Strategies Work For?

Does Any of This Sound Familiar?

You know scholarships are out there, but you have no idea where to find the good ones.

You’re wondering whether your family makes too much money to qualify.

Your student is busy, and you don’t want them spending hours applying for scholarships with thousands of competitors and terrible odds.

Maybe your student isn’t a valedictorian, star athlete, or someone with a dramatic life story—and you’re wondering whether they’re “special enough” to win.

Or maybe you’ve opened one of the giant scholarship websites, stared at hundreds of listings, and thought:

Where do we even begin?

That's exactly what I help families solve. Here's how:

The Biggest Scholarships Aren’t Always the Best Scholarships

When most families think about scholarships, they think of the same big national awards—or assume scholarships are mainly for students with extraordinary grades, athletic ability, or significant financial need.

But there are thousands of legitimate opportunities offered through community organizations, foundations, businesses, professional associations, local groups, and other sources.

Many of those opportunities attract far fewer applicants than the scholarships everyone sees advertised online.

The challenge isn’t simply knowing scholarships exist.

It’s knowing where to look, which opportunities are actually worth your student’s time, and how to submit applications that can compete. That’s what I teach.

My Scholarship Strategy Comes Down to Three Things

1. Find Better Opportunities

Learn where to look for legitimate, lesser-known scholarships instead of relying only on massive databases and highly competitive national awards.

2. Build Stronger Applications

Learn how to present your student’s experiences, activities, goals, and story in a way that gives scholarship judges a reason to remember them.

3. Rinse & Repeat (and Win Way More)

Create strong core essays and application materials that can be adapted and reused so your student isn’t starting from scratch every single time.

Because finding scholarships is only half the battle, I teach families how to actually win them.

“Ryan’s guidance with essay writing helped me create the essays I needed to win.”

– Jacob, $8,000 winner

Before we met, Jacob had applied to several scholarships, but hadn’t seen success. After walking through my “Get Paid to Go to College” scholarship coaching program, he applied for a handful of local, low-competition scholarships I taught him to locate and was soon notified about his first win — an $8,000 scholarship!

Until freshman year of college, Isaac hadn’t applied for a scholarship. Now he’s a $10,000 winner and counting.

He was unsure if applying for scholarships would work for him, but he progressed through the “Get Paid to Go to College” scholarship program, and we worked together to craft compelling application answers. With my editing guidance, Isaac aced his scholarship essay and sent off his application. Soon after, he was notified he had won a $10,000 scholarship!

“Because of Ryan, I found out about this scholarship and could participate. Ryan greatly aided in brainstorming my essays so they were powerful and one-of-a-kind.”

– Emily, $5,000 winner

Only a sophomore in high school, Emily is already racking up college scholarships. This $5,000 opportunity opened the doors to others, and her winnings are continuing to climb. Emily completed the “Get Paid to Go to College” program and we worked together to polish and refine her essays.
